Phi Delta Theta was organized with three principle objectives: The cultivation of friendship among its members, the acquirement of individually of a high degree of mental culture, and the attainment of personally of a high standard of morality. These objectives, referred to as the “Cardinal Principles,” have guided over 235,000 men since 1848 when the Fraternity was founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Understanding the Challenges
Members of the Phi Delta Theta management team were spending significant time devoted to managing inventory and multiple vendors for distribution of marketing related materials to their local fraternities and fraternity members.
Setting Initial Objectives
Phi Delta Theta’s internal management team needed a solution to introduce a new brand campaign to members, local chapters, and alumni and to automate the ordering and distribution of their chapter materials to their local chapters. Phi Delta Theta reviewed options nationally to consolidate an online store to supply their channels with newly branded apparel, promotional products, stationery, recruiting materials and chapter materials as well as a solution for their Iron Phi merchandise program used as a fund raiser for Lou Gehrigs disease.
The Advanced-Online Solution
Advanced-Online worked closely with Phi Delta Theta and their design firm to take the new brand from concept to actual products across the spectrum of branded items needed by all channels. Advanced-Online took control of all products needed by Phi Delta Theta alumni, students, chapters and home office including newly branded apparel, promotional products, stationery, recruiting materials and chapter materials creating a single online ordering process to support all channels.
Advanced-Online set min and max levels for all inventory items based on expected use to eliminate back orders to customers. An automated process for replenishing inventory levels and approvals were also put in place. The majority of products were set up as on demand production eliminating inventory and back orders and inventory liability. On demand production capability allowed Phi Delta Theta to create a broad selection of product options for all channels without incurring significant inventory exposure while pleasing all customers.
Advanced-Online provided freedom from the huge overhead costs associated with sourcing, producing, managing, inventorying and shipping print and other products to their customers. The financial burden of having key marketing and other employees previously devote significant administrative time to these tasks has been eliminated by automation. Advanced-Online’s sophisticated online ordering solution has proven to be successful for Phi Delta Theta.
